Jazzerstep combines the thrill of Jazzercise with the excitement of this low-impact exercise form. Jazzerstep has been designed with you in mind. Step movement modifications have been incorporated into original Jazzercise choreography so the feel of Jazzercise routines remains virtually unchanged.
The step will undoubtedly be a new experience for you. Don't be surprised if you feel a bit awkward...It's only natural. In time you'll hardly even notice the step is there. Her are a few suggestions to help ensure your Jazzerstep experience is an enjoyable one:
- Don't build your step to high! A four-to-six inch step height is recommended. The knee should never bend beyond 90 degrees when it's bearing weight.
- Test the stability of your step by standing on the center of the platform and moving back and forth, and side to side. The platform should feel secure. If your step is sliding on the floor it could be because of dust on the rubber feet. A moistened figure will clean the dust of the feet and prevent movement of your step.
- When stepping up, contact the platform with the entire sole of your foot. Do not let your heels or toes dangle of the sides. When stepping down, land gently on the ball of your foot and lower your heel to the floor.
- Stay as close as possible to the platform as you step down. Stepping too far back places unnecessary stress on the calf muscles, the Achilles' tendon and the ball of the foot.
- Maintain eye contact with the step without dropping your head too far forward.
- When lifting or lowering a platform, use proper lifting technique. Use the legs, not the back and arms.
- When turning the platform during the course of the class....bend at the knees, NOT the waist and be sure to keep your head up.
ONE CAUTION! Step training may not be an appropriate activity if your are extremely overweight or pregnant. Both of these conditions may impair your coordination and body awareness, resulting in a loss of balance. Increased weight will also result in greater stress to your knees. if your are overweight or pregnant, please consult with your physician prior to participation in this class.
