Designing a Controller Board Bracket
Christmas 1998

Dear Santa,
For Christmas could you please give me 24 Optima yellow tops, an Auburn Kodiak controller, and a K & W 144 volt battery charger? I'll be a good boy. I promise to use my new EV whenever possible, and only use my ICE when the trip's too long for the EV. What do you say, Santa? This stuff isn't cheap. I'd love an Albright main contactor in my stocking. How about winding some red and black welding cable around the tree? Please Santa...

Oh well, back to reality.

I am going stir crazy already not doing any EV work so I started work on a bracket to hold the controller board. The controller board will have the motor controller, the main contactors, the potbox, and whatever else I can fit on it! It's going to sit in the space above the motor and transmission. I've designed it to bolt to the adapter plate. At the top of this page is a three view drawing of it.

The previously mentioned motor bracket got lost in the Christmas rush. I hope to have it at the start of the New Year. When I get it, I'll send out the drawings for this bracket. In other news I've decided to buy a used controller. In talking with people on the EV mailing list, I found a used Curtis 1221C and hope to have it in sometime in the start of the New Year.

I've also tried to project when I'm going to get the Escort on the road. This is a fun project, but it's not worth a thing if I don't end up with a road worthy practical car. I finally applied for a title for the car. I would've done this sooner, but the way the previous owner transfered the title, it complicated things. When I get done converting the car, Pennsylvania requires me to apply for a "Reconstructed" title. I have to document the changes made on the car and have it looked over by a state certified auto mechanic.

In any event, I've made up a schedule with projected dates. You can find it if you go to the Conversion Index Page.
