Salutation and introduction to the Epistle's theme: Obedience, and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Peter beseeches the elders of the churches...
The blessed; the present test of faith; the readied salvation; the end at the apocalypse of Jesus Christ; the promised salvation found in the prophets; awaited for by the angels; the necessary girding of the mind; fashioning oneself after the holiness of God; redemption by the blood of Christ; the Word of God which lives and abides forever.
The requisite: Instruction for girding up the mind to the thinking of Jesus Christ. How to proceed: Lay aside all malice, etc.; be built up as a spiritual house, according to a prophecy; the building compared to rock and stone, for both believers and for those who disobey God; the chosen to reflect the virtues of their Maker, Who is merciful. Abstain from desires of the flesh; be submissive to human institutions; act honorably toward all men; be in fear of God. ...Instruction for servants.
(Continuing 1 Peter 3) ...Instruction for the wives. Instruction for all to follow. Suffering for Christ's sake and the logic behind the suffering; an example from the past. How to develop a good conscience; the full purpose of baptism.
How to arm oneself with the mind of Christ. Peter quotes passages from the Old Testament - specific proofs as examples for the correction of specific errors.
A last plea, addressed to the elders, to follow the pattern of Peter himself and of the apostles of the Lord. Submission required of the younger (men) to the elders; with all in obedience, in sobriety, in vigilance, and with a holy love toward all members.
Closing section, with signatures, personal greetings, and comments.

A reminder to remember the things of "the faith" through which the ecclesia was established in the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
A warning about the false teachers who will be brought into the ecclesias by stealth in order to ruin the faith in Christ and to deny his name as the true messiah of Israel.
A reminder to the beloved people, that they remember the holy prophets of God, and that they remember what the commandments of the Lord are, as delivered by his true apostles; and a reminder of how the people ought to act in expectation of the coming day of God. They are to be wary of being misled by the error of the Lawless One.
