A -- Mt. Zion
B -- City of new Jerusalem
C -- The city's suburb area
D -- Gates of the rebuilt city
The positions and the sizes of the openings of the twelve gates of the city, [ B ] new Jerusalem, as shown by [ D ], are merely presumed here. Ezekiel's text does not give any precise locations for these gates. But see the spiritual pattern in Rev. 21:10-14.
The building - "as the frame of a city" - on Mt. Zion should not be confused with the new city of Jerusalem. Zion, [ A ] the hill of the LORD, is the most holy "city" within the city of a holy, new Jerusalem!
The temporal sanctuary of the LORD's house, a "house of prayer for all peoples," has only two outer gate entrances for the use of the people after the glory has entered the sanctuary. The east gate is shut after the glory's entrance; and thereafter is reserved for the Lord's use on the holy days.
New Jerusalem's suburb [ C ] is an open area; a broadway. It may be a paved concourse between the city, the portions of the prince, and the portions of the priests, providing access to and from all these places.
