The Lot for the Holy Oblation
48:8-22
- The southern boundary of Judah's lot is the north border of the holy
oblation.
- The entire holy oblation will be 25,000 measures in both length and
in width. It is square with the possession of the city. Of this measure,
the LORD's portion will be set aside with the measure of 10,000 in width
and of 25,000 in length, east to west.
- The text repeatedly states that the sanctuary of the LORD's house will
be in the midst "of it," the holy oblation.
- The priests of the former high priest's family, the Zadokites, "sons
of righteousness," have their lot to the north of the holy city.
- The priests, the servants of the house, the Levites, have their portion
to the south of the holy city.
- The portions belonging to "the prince" are on each side of
the lot for the new city of Jerusalem. These specific lots are in "the
breadth of thy land, O Immanuel."
- A suburban area, of 250 measures in width, connects the city with the
lots of the priests and of the prince. This area is likely a concourse.
- Benjamin's lot borders on the south side of the holy oblation.
