The House of the Temple
41:1-26

  • The temple building, within the structure like a city upon the mountain summit, occupies a square of 100 long cubits in length and of 100 long cubits in width.
  • There is a small court surrounding the temple building. This court lies on the north side, on the west end and on the south side of the structure. The court is twenty (20) cubits wide throughout the surrounding space.
  • At Ezekiel 42:3, this surrounding court is referred to merely as "the twenty."
  • The thickness of the wall of the temple's "house" (which is viewed here from its western end) is arrived at by the process of deduction from given facts:
  • The temple wall and the side-chambers wall both sit upon the foundation; therefore the wall thickness of the "house" is six cubits wide upon the foundation beneath the ground surface.
  • There is no mention of any roof covering for the temple building. When the temple is rebuilt, cleansed, and ready for dedication, the Glory of the LORD, in the pillar of the clouds, will come and overshadow the Most Holy place of the sanctuary on the mountain!

Compare the Authorized Version of the English text with the Septuagint Greek and its translation, and if possible, with the original Hebrew text, for a better understanding of the descriptives of the temple building and its courtyard.
