The Altar Court

The altar, in the presence of the temple, faces toward the east.
The altar court is confined by the way of the inner gatehouses. The altar dominates the 100-cubit square courtyard.
The altar's structure altogether is 14 cubits square. This number includes the width of its ledges. The ledges are walkways around the altar's body itself for the use of the priests who put the sacrifice upon the hearth, and for the sprinkling of the blood around the altar.
The altar's stairway faces eastward. See 43:18-27.

There is a flow of water at the south side of the altar.
