The Inner Court
40:47
- Some measures of the Inner Court are indirectly given in Chapter 40:46-47.
Part of this site's section belongs to the altar's court, which is 100
cubits long and also 100 cubits wide. It is a square area, filling the
central square of the entire "structure like a city" -- the sanctuary
of the LORD's house on Mt. Zion.
- The width of the entire structure within the wall of the sanctuary,
from north to south, can now be verified. The total distance is [50 + 100
+ [50 + 100 + 50] + 100 + 50]. These numbers add up to 500 cubits in distance,
in its width north to south.
- At this point in the vision, as theman guides Ezekiel and shows the
altar of burnt offerings to him, he measures the altar. The altar is located
before, or, in the presence, of "the house." The
"house" is a reference to the structure which is the temple building.
- However, the measures of the altar are not revealed to Ezekiel until
later on in the narration of the prophecy.
- The Inner Court is located upon all the elevation inside and
beyond the steps to the inner gatehouses. Furthermore, the elevation
increases at a point between the altar's court and the court which surrounds
the temple, where other steps go up to the porch of the temple.
