The North Gates

All the elevation above the stairs of the inner gates belongs to the Inner Court of the sanctuary on Mt. Zion. See Diagram I.

There are two north gate houses. The first gate opens into the Outer Court and the chambers upon the surrounding pavement. The second gate provides access to the Inner Court -- to the altar, to the priest's chambers and to the temple and its side chambers.

Arrows indicate "the way" -- the promenade -- which connects the porches of the gate houses.
