Go right to Chapter 40-48

The structure of this prophecy beautifully shows the purpose of God with the children of Israel [ from "the beginning" of the time in which He chose them to be His peculiar people ] during Ezekiel's time, through to"the full end" which He has covenanted through their fathers to give to them.

Chapter 1 - In the city of Chebar of the province of Babylon, the captive Jewish priest, Ezekiel, sees visions of God when the heavens are opened to him. The time is the fifth year of King Jehoiachin's captivity, and the 30th year of the Jubilee cycle; 592 B.C. He is overwhelmed by the appearance of the Spirit.

Chapter 2 - The Holy Spirit raises up the prophet and speaks to him.

Chapter 3 - Ezekiel is commanded to "eat a roll..," [a megillah - a scroll of holy writing].

Chapter 4 - The prophet is commanded to do some strange things...

Chapter 5 - He is also comanded to shave his hair, and to do some strange things with the shaved-off hair.

Chapter 6 - Ezekiel is ordered to prophesy against the mountains of Israel.

Chapter 7 - A prophecy that "The end has come upon the four corners of the land."

Chapter 8 - While sitting with the elders of Judah in his own house, the hand of God falls upon the prophet.

Chapter 9 - The spirit lifts up Ezekiel and carries him off to Jerusalem, to show him its abominations. The Spirit comands the destruction of all the men in the city who are not marked with the seal of God; and the work is done in the presence of Ezekiel...

Chapter 10 - Ezekiel is told to take coals of fire from the presence of God's throne and to sprinkle them on the city... A detailed description of the throne is given.

Chapter 11 - A prophecy concerning the Eastern Gate of the holy city on the high mountain.

Chapter 12 - Prophecies against the present abominable practices (in Ezekiel's time) of the rulers of Jerusalem.

Chapter 13 - Prophecy against the false prophets of Israel who speak "out of their own heart."

Chapter 14 - Prophecy against the elders of Israel (of Ch. 8) who sit before the prophet.

Chapter 15 - Prophecy against "the vine tree."

Chapter 16 - Prophecy concerning Jerusalem's ancestry, and of her adoption by God... God will remember His covenant with her, v.60-63.

Chapter 17 - Parable of the Great Eagle, and of the rebellious house of Judah.

Chapter 18 - Proverb of the Sour Grapes.

Chapter 19 - A Lament for the rulers of Israel.

Chapter 20 - The elders of Israel come again to Ezekiel to inquire of him. Ezekiel is commanded to speak of the judgment to be done against them. "As I live, says the Lord Yahweh, Surely with a mighty hand and with an arm outstretched, and with fury poured out, I will reign over you."

Chapter 21 - A prophecy against the South and the forest of the Negev.

Chapter 22 - Word of the LORD against the bloody city, Jerusalem; against the rebellious house of Israel; and against the defiled land, for profaning the covenant of the "sabbath rest" of God.

Chapter 23 - The parables of the two daughters of the same mother, Oholah and Oholibah.

Chapter 24 - In the ninth year, tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar sets himself against Jerusalem; instruction to the prophet.

Chapter 25 - Prophecy against Ammon, Moab and against Edom.

Chapter 26 - Eleventh year, first day of month; word of the LORD against Tyre.

Chapter 27 - The lamentation for Tyre.

Chapter 28 - Concerning the Prince of Tyre, a lament; word of the LORD against Sidon.

Chapter 29 - Against Egypt - about Nebuchadnezzar in the 27th year of the Jubilee period, first day, first month, New Year's Day, 570 B.C.!

Chapter 30 - A prophecy concerning "the day of the LORD, a day of clouds.., the time of the nations..." Nebuchadnezzar's conquest of Egypt.

Chapter 31 - A prophecy for Egypt's Pharoah and his army.

Chapter 32 - The prophecy to Egypt's Pharoah and his army is continued.

Chapter 33 - Warning to the children of Israel; whoever heeds not the warning will die...

Chapter 34 - A prophecy against "the shepherds" (non-Israeli hirelings) of Israel... God Himself will search for, bring back and pasture His sheep in the Land. He will judge them. He will make a covenant of peace with them...

Chapter 35 - A prophecy against Mt. Seir in Edom, (a site of modern day Jordan).

Chapter 36 - A prophecy of the goodness of God to come upon the mountains of Israel (despite the fact that the Enemy has taken possession of the ancient high places).

Chapter 37 - Ezekiel is taken by the Spirit to a valley, which is full of dry bones... Commanded to prophesy, the bones reconstruct but the bodies yet have no life in them. Prophecy of "My servant, David" who shall rule over the reunited "sticks" of Judah and of Joseph as one house.

Chapter 38 - Prophecy against Gog, of the land of Magog.

Chapter 39 - Prophecy against Gog, of the land of Magog - continued.

Chapter 40 through 48 - Ezekiel is shown the site and buildings of the future sanctuary of the LORD's "house."
