Voicenet Introduces Web Control
Proxy server filters the Web's undesirable content

Ivyland, PA Ð Voicenet, the region's largest Internet Service Provider, is launching Web Control , a premium content filtering service, specifically designed to ensure positive Internet exposure for students, families and businesses.

"This optional service, offered by Voicenet to its customers at no cost, filters objectionable Internet content at the source, never allowing this material to reach end users," says Voicenet President Carmen A. DiCamillo. Web Control operates through a dedicated server located at Voicenet's Ivyland, Bucks County headquarters. "By using our Web Control system, subscribers and network administrators have no need to purchase additional hardware, install software or worry about updates," states DiCamillo. "We do all the filtering at the server level."

When Voicenet's Web Control subscribers log onto the Internet, their traffic is immediately routed through a special filtering server, preventing access to web sites with nudity, adult content, violence, drug use, bomb making, gambling, crime, and other questionable content, including chat sites with lack of editorial control.

This unique server-based filtering system, uses the latest filtering technology and also employs a team of human "Web browsers" to comb the Internet daily. They review sites and continuously update Voicenet's Web Control service, providing the most up-to-date filtering. According to DiCamillo, "This is the most-effective filtering method available."

Mosaica Academy Charter School, located in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, has been using Voicenet's Web Control option for the past few months. "Of course, nothing replaces adult supervision, but Voicenet's filtering service provides teachers and school administrators at Mosaica Academy with an assurance that exploration on the Internet stays in safe places," says Mark Basnage, Instructional Technology Coordinator. "It is a great component of our acceptable use policy. "

"As more and more families and learning institutions realize the tremendous educational power of the Internet, it is essential that we provide the safest connection possible," says DiCamillo. "By offering Web Control , Voicenet has once again distinguished itself as the region's top Internet Service Provider, offering not only the fastest and most reliable Internet access, but now, also the safest."

Voicenet's Web Control also allows the flexibility for parents to bypass the filtering system by using a special password and setting an exact amount of time for viewing unblocked sites.

For business applications, Web Control means employers have the absolute authority to determine which sites their employees are visiting during company hours. " Web Control blocks inappropriate sites while encouraging employees to do their job," says DiCamillo. "It offers employers and supervisors the peace of mind that productivity is not decreasing because of non-sanctioned Internet use, without their constant policing."

Web Control is available, at no extra charge, as part of Voicenet's basic Internet service package, starting as low as $14.95 a month for unlimited interactive use. Call (800) 835-5710 for additional information about Voicenet's Web Control filtering.
